Another “forgotten” work by Jonah has come to light after its owner contacted us via the Oriel Jonah Jones ’Lost work’ link.
Nik Murphy got in touch with us about a picture featuring several sketches of ideas for a sculpture. Done in watercolour and black ink, it is dated 1966 and titled ‘Sketches for Sculpture’. The sketches are almost certainly the first ideas for what became Colloquy and The Bridge, two works in Hornton stone carved around 1967. The label on the back of the piece is from the Tegfryn Gallery, Menai Bridge – Jonah exhibited there during the late 1960s/early 1970s.
We are grateful to Nik for contacting us and supplying the photograph above, which has been added to Oriel Jonah Jones. Click here for a larger view of the work.
