Summit of Tryfan Under Snow, watercolour on paper, 1963. Private collection. Photograph: Stephen Brayne.
During the later 1950s and 1960s Jonah did not produce many watercolours, although he did sketches from time to time, for instance during his visits to Rome and Florence in 1959 and 1961 respectively. Occasionally he also drew images on his walks in the mountains of Eryri. This striking study of Tryfan is an example of Jonah’s landscape painting at its best, powerful and vigorous.
