Hazlitt’s Dictum

As Jonah said in a 1998 essay, “The Word was central to my working career.” As well as carving letters in stone, he “painted letters on paper, did a bit of printing, wrote words in books and all told kept faith with the Word.” Some texts gave him the pleasant challenge of finding small symbols and images with which to illustrate the themes or metaphors of his chosen words. Looking closely at Hazlitt’s Dictum, one imagines that Jonah enjoyed himself while working on it.
