Glass: Church of St David, Mold

Oriel Jonah Jones logo

In 1966 Jonah created 12 dalle de verre windows for the Church of the Resurrection of Our Saviour in Morfa Nefyn on the Llŷn peninsula. Ranged round the church, which was essentially a plain white-walled rectangle, the windows stood almost from floor to ceiling and were striking in their abstract use of primary colour. However, the church was closed in 2016 and has since been demolished. Click or tap the left image above to see the windows in their original location.

Fortunately the Wrexham Diocese showed imagination in removing the windows from Morfa Nefyn and relocating them to their new home in the Church of St David, Mold. This was the only Catholic church in North Wales big enough to accommodate all the windows. After their complete renovation by the Architectural Glass Centre at the Swansea College of Art (University of Wales Trinity Saint David), which included the reconstruction of one panel which had failed, the windows were installed at St David’s – eight in front of plain windows, and four in light boxes hung on the walls. The windows were dedicated by the Bishop of Wrexham, Peter Brignall, on 4 June 2023. Click or tap the right image above to see the windows in their new location.
